Thoracoscopic ganglionectomy with laser speckle flowgraphy effectively treats compensatory sweating. Compensatory sweating should no longer limit the use of sympathectomy to treat primary hyperhidrosis. When intraoperative monitoring with laser speckle flowgraphy indicated the position of compensatory sweating by electrical stimulation of the sympathetic ganglion, ganglionectomy was performed. The surgeon, Dr. Yamamoto, used laser speckle flowgraphy to determine from which level of the sympathetic chain the compensatory sweating signals were originating in 8 patients.
